Sit local, or anywhere
You can keep it close to home, or you can use house sitting as a way to travel on a shoestring. It's all good, and it starts here.
Payment is negotiable.
Kansas City Area - Jackson

Greenwood, Missouri has a small town feel close to the city. Greenwood is known for it’s antique malls. Nearby Lee’s Summit is only a 5-10 minute drive and has all the standard suburban amenities and a wonderful little downtown with growing arts scene to explore. About 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City with TONS of activities to explore in the city!
Our house is nestles in James A. Reed Wildlife area and has a very wild feel to it. Wildlife is very common to see and hear…. deer, wild turkey, opossum, fox, raccoon, geese, song birds, coyotes. Neighbors within shouting distance and are all wonderful people. The property has a lot of history and some old abandoned buildings, each with their own stories.
We are in a very old 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath house, unfinished basement with laundry, pottery studio (may be available for use for the right sitter), yoga room, Montessori style classroom, Sioux style tipi in the backyard (currently down and undergoing repairs but will hopefully be back up before trip date), fire pit, bird feeders, gardens, walking trails (currently needing some maintenance but should also be walkable by trip date). Our house also has history and served as the property library before being converted to a house. It’s very old and has lots of quarks that are both interesting and fun.
Our furry and feathered friends……
2 dogs, a husky-lab mix around 9yrs old and rough collie around 3yrs. Need fed once a day and let out on their lead 2-3 times per day for potty breaks. Dogs can be taken to a separate sitter if need be.
2 fish tanks need fed once per day.
Quail need fresh water daily and food replenished as needed.
2 chickens let out in the morning, fed and watered, and coop closed in the evening. They typically self coop. Closing the coop before dark is very important as predators are very abundant here.
2 rabbit coops, food, water and timothy hay daily.
Some indoor cats and a feral cat population. We have a few kitties we keep permanently and have been working with a feral cat population. We’re in the process of TNR and have some of the females separated out from the males and some kittens that are up for adoption and adults that have been tamed and adoptable. Keeping unfixed females separated from the males is very important. Putting out food in the morning and evenings, making sure food is not left outside overnight, scooping a few indoor litter boxes for the indoor kitties. There are around 20 ferals at the time of this writing with at least 3 that should be in new homes by trip date. Working with a feral population is a plus but at very least being a crazy cat person might be required!
We’re undecided to what extent we will be working our gardens this year but some light watering may be needed. Most should be on an automatic watering system but just needs to be lightly monitored to make sure it’s running if needed. May need possible houseplant watering depending on length of trip.
