Amherst Massachusetts

Hello! I am looking for a caring individual to stay in our 2 bed apartment in North Amherst while I have to travel. We have an indoor cat and five cockatiels that need love and attention.

We are very close to UMASS Amherst, a river, hiking trails, a lake, a waterfall, a recreation area, library, shops, ice-cream parlor, laundry, buses etc. Everything you need! All are either next door or a short walking distance. The apartment complex has a big shared yard and is very well-managed. Neighbors are all quiet, mainly professionals or grad students.

Our resident cat is four years old, a little shy but very sweet and playful once he knows you. He is used to lots of company and loves sleeping next to you while you work or read. He does parallel companionship rather than cuddles.

The birds live in a big home cage by the window. They are allowed to fly free every morning and then go back in after exercise and time out. Both species are kept strictly separate of course! Everyone is used to their routines. Bird experience is useful but willingness to learn also works. The flock is gentle and well-trained. They all step up onto a perch or finger for handling. They've had other people looking after them and will warm to a kind, calm spirit.

I have some house plants that will also need light watering during the stay. In spring, they go outside on the balcony and make a little garden space.

Amherst is a classic New England college town and wonderfully vibrant. The whole Pioneer Valley region is packed with things to do especially music, the arts, restaurants, outdoor activities and all kinds of education.

I would prefer a single, mature person, especially female! This sit would suit someone who works remotely, or likes to spend a lot of time at home, or is looking for a retreat that isn't too isolated. Housekeeping is important because of the birds. Regular/daily cleaning, dusting and vacuuming is necessary but not difficult because the apartment is 650 sq feet. It would suit someone naturally clean and tidy.

We have a lot of art and craft supplies (sewing machines, knitting, crochet etc.), a keyboard and a guitar. The smaller bedroom with balcony is set up as a home office with adjustable standing desk, printer, fast wifi etc..

It would be great to find someone who loves the vibe of this area and would like to come back for future sits. For the right person, the stay can be extended through April and possibly longer.
