Hello:) We're looking for a very responsible, non-smoking retired couple to house sit our small home in Kailua Kona. We'd prefer a couple familiar with Hawaii. There are no pets to care for, just a small home (861sq ft). The yard is small with well established plants, lots of rock landscaping and two small patches of grass to maintain. Basic outside tidying and watering is needed regularly. Sitters would have a private guest room with twin or king bed options, guest bath, private lanai, living room and kitchen access of course. Sitters would also have access to beach gear including chairs, umbrellas, towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, coolers, etc. Our home is a short walk or 3 minute drive to the shoreline and 3 miles to Kona town. We hope our sit will give couples an opportunity to explore the islands while having a home base. Since the sit is approx 6 months, we are looking for a couple that is able to change a light bulb:), somewhat handy, start our vehicle on a regular basis and keep the house clean and in order. We are asking interested sitters to contribute to the cost of utilities, $395.00 per month and be able to secure their own transportation. Picking up a good used car is easy on the island, shipping your own or using all the many different and affordable public transportation options. We house sat for Laura and Jim for four years, each time from early June through December. We found Laura and Jim to be very kind and generous. They were understanding when we reported breakages, and they always made us feel appreciated. They gave us detailed instructions for cleaning the house and tending to the yard. The workload averaged under an hour a day for each of us.
Laura and Jim responded quickly and efficiently to the few maintenance issues that arose during our sits. We were always pleasantly surprised by the upgrades they made during their stays. The house is easy to clean and well ventilated, with a living room/kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. We only used one bedroom.
We enjoyed the location of the house. The neighborhood is tucked away from the tourist area, but convenient to Kona. The neighbors are friendly.
We will treasure the experiences we had here.
We had a wonderful experience house sitting for Jim and Laura. They provided a detailed agreement with their expectations and all of the necessary instructions. Their house is spotless and easy to keep clean. The bed is super comfortable, and the wifi is excellent. There are plenty of ceiling and floor fans and an air conditioner to keep cool.
