Sit local, or anywhere
You can keep it close to home, or you can use house sitting as a way to travel on a shoestring. It's all good, and it starts here.

Hi! Me and my two kitties—Panda and Dexter—live in a quiet neighborhood in NE Portland. It's pretty quiet and highly walkable, you'll usually see more people walking than cars. Within a 1/4 mile, you'll find groceries, restaurants, bus lines, pharmacy, bars, and parks. There is ample, free street parking in front of the house, and on the side.
My home is a 1040 sq. ft. 1948, one-story, post-war ranch w/two bedrooms, 1 full bath, office/craft space, laundry w/W&D, and a fully enclosed back yard. The kitchen has a brand-new electric, induction stove and comes stocked with a VitaMix and Instant Pot Duo Crisp, and a gluten-free pantry. I've also got a lot of plants that will need to be watered.
Panda is a 9-year-old short-haired tuxedo. She is vocal, but not much of a lap cat. Dexter is a 2-year old longhaired tux/maincoon, who is also vocal, and he loves water! They are both accustomed to me being around most of the time, as I work from home, but neither is that demanding re: attention. Dexter loves pets, but isn't a lap cat either. I change their water and top up their food twice a day, and they go outside as they please. Litter gets scooped every other day and replaced every 2 weeks.
