John Rogers

48, Freelance copy editor

Hi there! Hope you're doing well.

A few years ago, I decided to become a nomad pet sitter in order to explore some new places, take care of animals, and save the money I'd otherwise be spending on rent. I've worked full-time as a freelance copy editor for over a decade, so my occupation allows me to be totally mobile--I can work wherever there's a desk (or kitchen table) and an internet connection. I'd like to become a homeowner in the next few years, and this platform has helped me make some effective strides in that direction. It's also brought some delightful new pups, cats, and humans into my life!

I grew up with cats and dogs, and since my parents typically brought them into the house as a result of my doe-eyed begging, I was made responsible for their care from a young age. Before hitting the road with the help of Housesitters America, I took care of friends' (and strangers') homes and pets on a regular basis--not a month seemed to go by in which I wasn't walking, feeding, and cuddling someone's dogs or cats, whether for a week or just a weekend.

I enjoy getting around town on foot and by bicycle (although you might want to know that I own a dependable and lightly driven car), vegetarian cooking, reading, and all sorts of physical activity--running, hiking, yoga. I practice meditation every day, and your pups and cats would be welcome to sit or curl up next to me and show me how it's done. I'd say my lifestyle is equal parts physically active and serene/quiet. I do enjoy keeping my living space--and yours--in order. Since I cook every day, I keep my kitchen clean and tidy, and the same would go for your kitchen as well as the rest of your home.

My references can attest to the warmth, responsibility, and playfulness with which I've cared for their animals, as well as to the quality of my communication with the homeowners themselves. I'm comfortable with the full range of pet personalities, from independent to mischievous to cuddly.

If you'd like to get to know me better, I'm more than happy to video chat or talk on the phone. (And if you'd like to read many, many more reviews of me, feel free to visit my profile at Trusted Housesitters--just ask me for my profile-specific link, and I'll send it your way.)

No rating John was a fantastic sitter for my 2 goats, big dog and tortoise. He has very Zen energy, is soft-spoken, and asked all the right questions. Communication was easy- well in advance, then touching base as my trip neared, then the day before, respectfully, reliably, as needed. While I was away he sent pictures of the animals, and not too many. He walked my dog regularly, and played with the goats. He even made a great impression with the neighbors. I recommend him highly and hope to have him come ... MORE

We were so fortunate to have John stay in our house and take care of our 100 lb lab Harley, our 17 yr ragdoll cat Libby & our 4 fish & water our plants. He left the house cleaner than when we left. John kept in communication with us & sent pictures of Harley-who he took on daily walks & Libby who he had to let outside to go to the bathroom. He was amazing & if we could give him more than 5 stars, we would. THANK YOU so much JOHN.

ARMAND ( Texas, Apr 2023 - 4 weeks)
John house sat for us and cared for our dog and cat while we were on a raft trip down the Grand Canyon. He was great! He came in the day before we left so that we could meet him and get familiar with our pets. He did an awesome job: great communication, cared for the pets as if they were his own, and left the house cleaner than when he arrived. We definitely recommend John and would use his great help in future!

No rating John is awesome!! Great communication before, during, and after. Expectations from both sides were communicated, and he showed a lot of respect for our home, and care for our dog. Our home was well taken care of, and we were able to enjoy our time away stress free. I would HIGHLY recommend John to anyone looking for a thoughtful, conscientious, and capable house sitter.

No rating I was very happy with having John as my house sitter! He is a responsible, compassionate and caring man. I appreciated the videos of my kitty and she was clearly well loved while I was gone. Also, my plants were well cared for as well. I highly recommend him!!

No rating I usually have couples come as house sitters but John seemed so easy going and calm that he made a very positive impression on me. That first impression was also the lasting impression. John was easy to communicate with, he was flexible (I changed the dates somewhat), and most importantly he took great care of Shyla, my senior Jack Russell. John was reliable, he arrived on time, and he sent weekly updates and videos with Shyla. He also did what he could to calm Shyla because she gets so ... MORE
